DECONSTRUCTED TECH ART
I take cameras, Walkmans, disk drives and other devices apart, then rebuild them as precise, blueprint-inspired artworks that celebrate engineering and design.
SPEC SHEET
Selected deconstructed tech compositions by Alex Preston.
I’m Alex Preston, an artist based in Hertfordshire, UK, focused on the internal geometry of everyday technology. I disassemble devices like Walkmans, cameras, disk drives and CD players, then arrange every component into precise, blueprint-inspired compositions.
Each piece starts at the workbench: careful teardown, cleaning and cataloguing every screw, spring and circuit. From there, I map out a layout that balances engineering accuracy with graphic clarity, turning hidden mechanisms into wall-ready artwork.
I create work for collectors, engineers, designers and anyone with a soft spot for the inside of a device.
Custom deconstructed tech art built around your device or idea.
Tell me which device you’d like to feature (or what type of device you are interested in), how you want to display it, and any attachment you have to it – story, brand, model, era.
I’ll confirm what’s possible with your device, propose a layout size and style, and send a clear quote and timeframe. A deposit secures your slot.
The device is fully disassembled, cleaned and organised. Components are arranged with blueprint-like precision on a backing board or prepared for high-resolution print.
You’ll receive the finished piece (framed physical work or print-ready digital files) along with a simple annotation key describing the device.
